A painting of my girlfriend in a classical style.
This painting pays tribute and references many things through art history. 1) It is very traditional for an artist to paint their significant other. 2) She is posed in a way that mimics many Venus paintings throughout history. 3) The vase in the foreground is loosely based off of a Roman vase depicting Venus and other figures, on display at the Met. 4) The foliage in the back pays homage to Botticelli's "Primavera" 5) I shaped this foliage into repeating arch shapes, known in architecture as "Triumphal Arches".

I have seen Venus once before. I have stood at the river’s edge and bathed in her light. But, unbeknownst to me, her presence was fleeting. Many years passed, and with each one, she became more of a forgotten memory. I had stopped looking for her. My telescope slowly shifted across the night sky to Mercury, a familiar sight. While immersed in Mercury’s glow, quite suddenly, a ray of light beamed on the bay. Venus, in all her glory, entered my field of vision. She glows brighter than I remember. She holds me close as I stare in awe of her light. Fully captivated, I promise myself to never take her for granted again.
