Minty
I choose to honor the bravery and spirit of Harriet Tubman.

Harriet Tubman (born Araminta Ross, c.?March 1822[1] – March 10, 1913) was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends,[2] using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. During the American Civil War, she served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army. In her later years, Tubman was an activist in the movement for women's suffrage.

This piece was sculpted with clay and fired in a kiln 3 times. The textured surfaces are enhanced by using a combination of metal oxides and underglazes that are fired in a kiln to 1971 Degrees Fahrenheit. After the firing process is complete I use an iron acrylic paint on her face. This acrylic paint has actual iron particles in it. A patina solution is applied to the iron painted surface and creates actual rust on the ceramic surface.

This one is a younger version of Harriett I call this sculpture Minty the nickname given to her by her parents
