Joan Carver

Joan Carver – Artist Biography
joanecarver@yahoo.com
For Florida artist Joan Carver, the desire to paint started when she was old enough to hold a paintbrush. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Ohio and western Pa, Joan was drawn to the ocean. After college in the Pittsburgh area, Joan started her travels across the eastern states with her husband. Joan, driven by her love, for the impressionistic style, of art and the coast, set out to discover her love of anything tropical. Sketchbooks of her vacations were filled with beach scenes, palms, shore birds, children playing in the sand, and water. After settling in Charlotte, North Carolina, with her husband and two young children, Joan taught art in both private and public schools for over 23 years. Her love teaching unfolded the dream of her life, to share her experiences and knowledge of art with children by opening her own art school. Joan owned and operated the art school, the “Wizard of Art” in in Concord, NC. for eighteen years, where she brought the joy of art to both children and adults. Joan was driven to expand the futures of every student who walked through the doors. She offered children’s mixed media classes, drawing, acrylic painting, a teen portfolio class, mixed media, photography, pottery and adult art classes. Joan is currently working on a book depicting her many experiences of teaching and creating art over the years. Her first three published books: Joan Carver , Making a Splash ,and most recent book Reflections of an Artist ,contain collections of her artwork.
Joan traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, as well as many of the Caribbean Islands, fine tuning her love for the different media styles she embraces. She was honored to spend time painting, on the island of Saint Martin, with the famous artist, Sir Roland Richardson, considered the Father of Caribbean Impressionism. The many workshops she attended across the U.S. of well-known artists, explain the diverse art styles…staying current with new products and techniques were important, so she could share her information and knowledge with her students. Oils and watercolors are her favorite, while she still plays around with silk painting and pastels.
Now settled in Saint Johns, Florida (Jacksonville) with her husband Garry, Joan paints for galleries and accepts commissioned work. Joan has been involved as a member of the Jacksonville Watercolor Society, Jacksonville Artists, she’s participated in the Plein-Air Artists of St. Augustine, The Art Association of St. Augustine, and The Cultural Center of Ponte Vedra Beach.
Joan has been in many galleries locally and in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina but prefers to exhibit in local commercial offices where guests can view and purchase her artwork. She is proud to say that many offices have purchased her paintings as their permanent collection including Baptist South Medical Center, dentists offices, financial services, plastic surgery centers.
